BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Mackenzie Koeller repeated as Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and six total Camels received all-conference recognition on the league's 2018 all-conference teams.
Koeller was also named to the league's all-academic team, while
Melissa Placek,
Megan Reilly and
Sam Carey all received First Team All-Big South nods.
Kayla Reilly was a Second Team All-Big South pick, while
Amanda Chasin took honorable mention accolades.
Winthrop's Nicole Beatson was also named Big South Offensive Player of the Year, while High Point's Erica Perrotta was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Abby Hormes, also from High Point, was named Big South Freshman of the Year, while the Panthers' Lyndsey Boswell received Coach of the Year honors, rounding out the conference's major awards.
Koeller was also named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2017. The senior attacker graduated from Campbell with a 3.97 GPA in international business and a Spanish minor, and holds a 4.00 GPA in CU's MBA program. Koeller led the Big South in goals in conference games with 32, standing tied for fourth in points in league matchups with 35. She finished out the regular season with five-straight hat tricks, including 20 goals in her final three outings.
Placek picked up her second-straight First Team All-Big South honor, ranking second overall in the conference in goals scored with 57 and posting the third most draw controls with 96, two shy of the Campbell single-season record, and helping the Camels lead the league in the category in 2018. The Baltimore, Md. junior notched 12 hat tricks this season.
Megan Reilly was named First Team All-Big South after earning Second Team honors in 2017. The defender has already set Campbell single-season records for both ground balls and caused turnovers, posting 42 and 26, respectively. Campbell's all-time leader in both categories, Reilly ranks eighth in the conference in ground balls.
Carey was also named First Team All-Big South, posting 89 draw controls, ranking fourth in the conference, adding 11 points on nine goals and a pair of assists. The sophomore helped Campbell lead the Big South in draw controls in conference play, winning 10 draws individually twice this season. The midfielder tacked on 23 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
After earning First Team honors in 2017,
Kayla Reilly was named Second Team All-Big South this season. The senior ranks second in the Big South in assists in conference contests with 25 helpers, while standing tied for fourth in points with 35. Reilly tied a Campbell single-game record with 10 points in a win at Gardner-Webb, also setting a school record with seven assists. Campbell's all-time leader in assists, Reilly became the first in program history to record 100 career goals, assists and ground balls.
Chasin picked up an honorable mention All-Big South nod, ranking second on the team in both ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (17). A junior defender, Chasin posted six ground balls three times this season, forcing four turnovers twice.
This is the
second-consecutive year that six Camels have earned All-Big South honors on the league's end of year list.
Campbell will be the No. 4 seed in this week's Big South Championships, hosting fifth-seeded Radford on Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium. For more information on the
