BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell senior David Olson has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Olson, a senior from Auburn, Wash., hits .358 on the season with 37 runs scored and 28 RBI while holding a 3-0 record on the mound with a 2.08 ERA and a save. Olson adds two home runs and six doubles at the plate, while pitching 21 2/3 innings over 13 appearances.
Olson was recently named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List, one of just 25 players in the country.
The senior was named Big South Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on March 9, hitting two home runs with three multi-hit games, five RBI, seven runs and a win on the mound to cap it off in a 5-0 week for Campbell. Olson hit .526 on the week, hitting safely in 10-of-19 chances.
The righthander, who has started 35 games as the Camels' designated hitter, was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll as a junior in 2012, also earning Second Team All-Big South as an infielder.
Olson is the sixth Camel to garner CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, following Jeff Blick (2005), Mike Campbell (1999), Kent Cox (1994, '95, '96), Josh Holskey (2010, '11, '12) and William McLean (1997, '98).
Olson is one of three Big South student-athletes on the 2013 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District teams, along with Coastal Carolina's Justin Creel and Presbyterian's Bred Zebedis on the District 4 squad.
No. 29 Campbell (37-8, 14-4 Big South) returns to the diamond on Friday, May 3 at High Point to begin a three game Big South series.
