BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After taking its fourth-straight Big South weekend series, Campbell travels to the College of Charleston on Tuesday for its final midweek contest of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Patriots Point.
The Camels are 39-9 overall, seeking back-to-back 40-win seasons for the first time in program history.
At High Point, the Campbell pitching staff owned a season best series ERA of 0.69 for the weekend, allowing only two earned runs in three games while striking out 20 Panthers. Over the last four Big South series, CU owns a 1.24 ERA and 84 strikeouts while the Camels have gone 10-2.
Ryan Thompson, now 6-0 with eight saves and a 0.81 ERA, picked up a relief win and a save in the series win and was named the Big South's Pitcher of the Week. Thompson earned the win in three innings of relief on Saturday, moving to 6-0 on the season with a pair of hits, two strikeouts and two walks. On Sunday, Thompson came back to earn his eighth save, going three more innings after picking up the win Saturday night. The junior righty did not allow a baserunner, striking out one. He needed just 22 pitches.
His six scoreless innings extended a streak to 20 2/3 innings without a run allowed, dating back to April 5 (11 appearances). The streak is his second of the season of 20 2/3 without an earned run charged, which dated from Feb. 19 to March 20 (10 appearances).
Michael Felton hit .545 for the week and extended his hitting streak to seven games. Felton has 16 hits over his last seven games, hitting .593 with seven RBI and seven runs scored, while posting a .365 average on the season with 43 RBI and 39 runs scored.
Ben McQuown stole his 44th base of the year on Sunday, and adds 56 runs, 25 RBI and a .320 average. Brent Graham, meanwhile, hits .396 with 50 runs scored and 35 RBI, while David Olson bats .357 with 38 runs.
The Cougars are 26-20 heading into the midweek following a 2-1 series win at Wofford. C of C split the first two games of the set, winning 10-6 and falling 6-3 before a 3-0 series clinching victory on Sunday.
Gunnar Heidt leads the Cougars with a .351 average, 48 RBI, 45 runs, six triples and four homers, while Brandon Murray hits .314 with eight home runs and 49 RBI. On the mound, Jake Zokan is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA, while Nathan Helvey is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA.
Campbell returns home for its final six regular season contests, beginning with Liberty on May 10.
The Liberty series, originally slated for a Saturday doubleheader, has been pushed to a single contest, with the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. due to Campbell University Spring Commencement ceremonies. Friday and Saturday's games will be 6 p.m. starts at Jim Perry Stadium.
