BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Ryan Thompson has been named the Crons Brand Big South Pitcher of the Week after picking up a relief win and a save in Campbell's Big South series win over the weekend at High Point.

Thompson came on with one on and none out in the bottom of the seventh on Saturday and got out of a jam with the potential HPU go-ahead run on third in a 2-2 game.

Panthers moved into scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth, reaching third in the seventh and eighth. In the ninth, two reached with a base hit and a hit batter. Thompson induced a ground ball to third to end the game, with Elijah Trail tagging out the HPU baserunner.

Thompson earned the win in three innings of relief, moving to 6-0 on the season with a pair of hits, two strikeouts and two walks Saturday night.

On Sunday, Thompson earned his eighth save, going three more innings after picking up the win Saturday night. The junior righty did not allow a baserunner, striking out one. He needed just 22 pitches.

The Turner, Ore. native again came into the game with none out and a runner on base, this time on second before inducing two straight pop outs and a line out. Thompson posted 1-2-3 eighth and ninth innings, getting the called strike three to end the game.

Thompson helped the Campbell pitching staff to a 0.69 ERA for the weekend, allowing only two earned runs in three games while striking out 20 Panthers.

His six scoreless innings extended a streak to 20 2/3 innings without a run allowed, dating back to April 5 (11 appearances). The streak is his second of the season of 20 2/3 without an earned run charged, which dated from Feb. 19 to March 20 (10 appearances).

For the season, Thompson is 6-0 with eight saves and a 0.81 ERA.

Thompson is Campbell's third hurler to be named Big South Pitcher of the Week this season after Ryan Mattes (Feb. 18) and Heath Bowers (April 15).

The Camels return to action Tuesday, May 7 at the College of Charleston. The contest will be Campbell's final midweek game of the season.
