No. 30 Camels Host Liberty in Pivotal Big South Series

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – With Big South positioning on the line, No. 30 Campbell hosts Liberty this weekend for a three game set at Jim Perry Stadium. The series kicks off Friday at 6 p.m., and continues Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Camels sit atop the Big South North Division standings at 16-5 in league play, also carrying a 40-9 overall mark. At 12-6, Radford (27-20 overall) trails CU, followed by Liberty (27-21) at 11-7 in Big South games. Coast Carolina (29-18) leads the BSC South Division at 13-5.

Campbell is coming off a 6-2 win at the College of Charleston on Tuesday, securing back to back 40 win seasons for the first time in school history. The Camels are one of five teams in the nation with 40 wins heading into the weekend, including North Carolina, LSU, Vanderbilt and Florida State.

Ben McQuown, Michael Felton, Elijah Trail, Will Albertson and Nick Ray all gathered two hits each for the Camels, with Felton and Albertson both scoring twice. McQuown, Albertson, Michael DeLucia and Jesse Simmons each drove in a run in the win.

Hector Cedano, Logan Self, Coley Thompkins and David Olson combined to limit the Cougars to six hits, with Olson retiring nine straight for his second save. Self was credited with the win, moving to 2-0 this season.

Brent Graham owns a .384 average with 50 runs scored and 35 RBI, while Michael Felton bats .368 with 43 RBI and 41 runs scored. Olson hits .358, while Clayton Brown owns a team-high .427 batting average. McQuown owns 44 stolen bases to lead the country, tacking on a .324 average and 56 runs scored.

On the mound, Heath Bowers is 7-0 with a 1.83 ERA, while Ryan Mattes owns a 6-3 mark with a 2.37 ERA. Hector Cedano is 8-2 and Matt Marksberry is 7-2. Ryan Thompson owns a 6-0 record with eight saves and a 0.81 ERA.

Liberty is coming off a 4-3 win over Duke in Lynchburg, Va. after falling to Maryland 4-2 the previous week. In their last Big South series, the Flames picked up a sweep at VMI, taking the set 4-0, 11-6 and 13-7.

Bryan Aanderud paces Liberty with a .342 average at the plate, tacking on 32 RBI. Danny Grauer hits .304 with a team-high 36 RBI and seven home runs, while Trey Wimmer owns a .298 average and 32 RBI. On the mound, Josh Richardson holds a 2-2 record and a 1.85 ERA, while Brooks Roy is 6-4 and carries a 3.36 ERA. Trey Lambert is 6-3 with a 3.71 ERA.

The Camels have one more series on their regular season schedule, hosting New Orleans May 16-18 at Jim Perry Stadium. The Big South Championships begin May 21 in Lynchburg, Va.
