BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell continues its homestand, hosting Quinnipiac in a three game series this weekend at Jim Perry Stadium.
Friday's opener will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. start on Saturday and a 1 p.m. first pitch in Sunday's finale.
Campbell (2-2) is coming off a 10-0 Wednesday loss to 18th ranked East Carolina in front of a record Jim Perry Stadium crowd. The overflow crowd of 1,563 set a new Jim Perry Stadium single-game attendance record, breaking the previous mark of 1,120 (5/2/14 vs. Gardner-Webb). Through four contests, the Camels are averaging 1,021 fans per game.
Drew Butler has paced the Camels at the plate in the early going, batting .500 (7-for-14) with five runs and three RBI. The senior utility man has also gone a perfect 3-for-3 on the base paths, where the team is 10-for-10 so far this season.
Cole Hallum has driven in eight, with three of his four hits (4-for-11, .364) on the season going for extra bases. Jeff Hahs has also scored five runs, while Jimmy Monaghan has hit .444 in three games.
Tyson Messer (1-0) earned a win in his season debut last Sunday against Northern Kentucky, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless in relief with two hits, seven strikeouts and a walk. Messer entered in the top of the fifth, retiring 11-of-12 that including six strikeouts (six consecutive outs were made via the strikeout).
Quinnipiac is 3-1 on the season after taking its opening weekend four-game series at UT San Antonio. Liam Scafariello has clubbed five home runs in just four games for the Bobcats, driving in seven and scoring five times. Ryan Nelson has picked up five RBI, also scoring five times.
Christian Nicolosi tops the Quinnipiac starting rotation. The sophomore righty went 5 1/3 with three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk in his season debut against UTSA. Mike Davis anchors the Quinnipiac bullpen with a save and an unblemished ERA in 3 1/3 innings over three appearances.
The Camels and the Bobcats will be meeting for the first time.
Campbell returns to action next weekend, hosting Ohio State in Buies Creek for a three game series, March 3-5. The Camels head on the road for the first time this season March 7-8 at Georgia Southern.
