BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Zach Ratcliff's two home runs powered Ohio State over Campbell 7-1 Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium, evening the weekend series.
Ohio State moved to 4-6 on the season, while Campbell dropped to 5-4 overall. The Camels claimed Friday's opener 7-2. Game three will feature a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
Ratcliff homered in the first and again in the sixth for the Buckeyes. The senior designated hitter lifted a two-run homer in a five-run first inning and added a solo shot in the sixth, going 2-for-4 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored.
OSU sent 10 to the plate in the first, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Jalen Washington also homered in the inning, and Jacob Barnwell's sacrifice fly added a run.
Washington was 2-for-5, knocking in two on the homer and scoring twice in the win. Bo Coolen also picked up a two-hit night for Ohio State.
Jake Post (1-1) earned the win, pitching six innings with a run on five hits, eight strikeouts and a walk. Dustin Jourdan and Curtiss Irving combined for three scoreless frames in relief.
Andrew Witczak (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits with two walks.
Alex Yarem tossed 3 1/3 out of the pen, allowing an unearned run on two hits with two punchouts and three walks. Jack Yusko fanned one and walked two in 2/3 of an inning. Wes Noble surrendered a run on two hits in five innings, adding six strikeouts and three walks.
Campbell got on the board in the bottom of the second with Matthew Barefoot's RBI double. Barefoot, a redshirt freshman, doubled twice in the loss, going 3-for-4. Jeff Hahs also went 3-for-4 for the Camels, while Adam Wyse notched a 2-for-3 day.
Next up for Campbell will be its first road test of the season, heading to Georgia Southern for a two game midweek set March 7-8. The Camels return home on Friday, March 10, beginning a three game series with Evansville.
