BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After racking up eight hits in Campbell's three game series with Ohio State, Matthew Barefoot has been named the Big South Player of the Week.
Matthew Barefoot hit an outstanding .727 on the week, going 8-for-11 at the plate with a homer and three doubles against Ohio State. The redshirt freshman also knocked in two and scored a run for the Camels. He reached base at a .750 clip and slugged 1.273 in the weekend series against the Buckeyes.
In game one, Barefoot was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in a 7-2 Campbell win. He followed with back to back 3-for-4 days, doubling twice and driving in a run Saturday, then launching his first collegiate home run on Sunday. Barefoot was also perfect in the field, starting games in left and center fields, registering an outfield assist on Sunday.
For the year, Barefoot hits .432 with five RBI and four runs scored, leading the team with seven doubles.
Campbell heads on the road for the first time this season March 7-8 at Georgia Southern. The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium for a three game weekend series against Evansville, March 10-12.
