Baseball opens Big South slate at GWU

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell heads into Big South play this weekend, traveling to Gardner-Webb for a three game series, March 24-26.

Friday's opener will begin at 6 p.m., followed by 2 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday at J.H. Moss Stadium.

Campbell (9-12) is coming off a 9-8 midweek win at North Carolina State where four Camels picked up three hits. Cole Hallum went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run for the Camels, picking up his third home run of the season, while Matthew Barefoot collected a 3-for-5 night with his fourth homer of the year, also doubling twice.

Kyle Mehl also drove in a run and went 3-for-4, and Adam Wyse scored three times, going 3-for-5.

Barefoot hits .415 with 19 RBI to lead the Camels, while Jeff Hahs hits .339 with 15 RBI. Drew Butler, the nation's leader in stolen bases with 20, also hits .329 with 24 runs scored, adding a .484 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot.

On the mound, Tyson Messer is 3-1 with a 3.22 ERA in 22 1/3 innings over seven  appearances. Alex Yarem is 1-0 with a 4.21 ERA. Ryan Kirk and Allan Winans are also 2-2 on the season.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are 10-12 on the year, winning five of their last six after outslugging Western Carolina 15-13 on Wednesday. GWU is also opening Big South play this weekend.

Collin Thacker hits .337 with 20 RBI for GWU, while Mickey Dugan owns four home runs, hitting .286 and adding 12 RBI. Bradley Hallman is 2-2 with a 1.46 ERA in five starts.

The Camels will head to Virginia Tech on March 28 before returning to Jim Perry Stadium for their home Big South opener March 31-April 2 against Charleston Southern.
