BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell wraps up an eight-game road swing Tuesday, March 28, at Virginia Tech. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. at English Field.
The Camels are 11-13 heading into the midweek road test, winning four of its last five outings, including their opening Big South series at Gardner-Webb. CU also topped North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C. last week.
Matthew Barefoot was named the Big South Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week on Monday, hitting .438 (7-for-16) with eight RBI, adding five runs scored with two home runs and two doubles in four games.
The redshirt freshman leads the Camels in batting (.409), RBI (25) and doubles (12), while tying for the team lead in home runs (5). During the month of March, where he took home three Big South weekly awards in four weeks, Barefoot is hitting .438 with 22 RBI, five home runs, eight doubles and 16 runs scored.
Jeff Hahs bats .353 on the season with 20 RBI, while Cole Hallum owns five home runs, hitting .292 with 22 RBI. Drew Butler adds a .310 average, scoring 26 runs with 22 stolen bases (leads NCAA Division I).
VT comes into the midweek contest at 14-12 on the season, falling three times to Pittsburg last weekend.
Sam Fragale hits .353 with 34 RBI and nine home runs for the Hokies, while Jack Owens bats .383, scoring 29 runs. Left-hander Kit Scheetz is 3-0 in 15 relief appearances for VT, recording a 3.63 ERA.
The Camels are 10-14 all-time against Virginia Tech, with Campbell taking three of the last five meetings.
Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium this weekend for its Big South home opener, hosting Charleston Southern. The series kicks off on Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m.
