Baseball heads to UNCW Tuesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell travels to longtime rival UNCW Tuesday, April 4, taking on the Seahawks at Brooks Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The Camels evened their record to 14-14 overall with a Big South series win over Charleston Southern last weekend. Campbell posted a 3-1 week that included a 15-8 win at Virginia Tech on Tuesday, then overcame a Friday loss with 6-0 and 3-2 victories to claim the series over Charleston Southern.

Matthew Barefoot and Zach Minnick both homered twice in CU's win at VT. Alex Yarem went the distance for a complete game shutout, Cole Hallum homered twice, leading Campbell to a 6-0 Saturday win over the Buccaneers. Jeff Hahs' two out game-ending RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave Campbell a 3-2 win over Charleston Southern Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium, clinching the Big South series.

After the Saturday complete game shutout, Yarem was named the Big South's Co-Pitcher of the Week.

For the season, Barefoot leads the Camels with a .389 average, totaling 31 RBI and seven home runs. Hahs hits .365 with 27 RBI and 25 runs scored for CU, while Kyle Mehl owns a .316 clip.

Zach Minnick hits .311 on the season, with Cole Hallum adding 27 RBI with seven home runs.

Yarem tops the CU pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 3.54 ERA. Ryan Kirk owns a 3-2 record, while Harry Thomas is 1-1 on the season.

The Seahawks are 11-15 overall following a 0-3 trip to the College of Charleston. Casey Golden hits .344 with nine home runs and 19 RBI to lead UNCW. Nick Feight matches Golden for the team lead with nine homers, tacking on 22 RBI and a .312 average. Alex Royalty paces the Seahawks on the mound with a 3-2 mark and a 4.05 ERA.

Tuesday's matchup will be the 94th between the Camels and Seahawks since 1964. UNCW leads the all-time series 58-35.

Campbell jumps back into Big South play this weekend on the road at High Point. The series begins Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. Saturday's matchup features a 2 p.m. start, followed by a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.

The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on Wednesday, April 12, hosting Duke.
