Baseball heads to NCCU Tuesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell heads back on the road for a midweek test at North Carolina Central Tuesday, April 18. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at historic Durham Athletic Park.

The Camels are 16-20 on the season, falling in six of its last seven outings. CU has won its last four nonconference road contests, including trips to North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, UNCW and Richmond.

Redshirt freshman outfielder Matthew Barefoot owns a team-high .367 average and 35 RBI for the Camels, adding seven home runs and 14 doubles. Senior Drew Butler also bats .311, hitting .458 (11-for-24) over his last five games. Butler remains the NCAA's stolen bases leader with 26 through 36 games.

Jeff Hahs and Cole Hallum each add 33 RBI for Campbell. Hahs bats .325 with a team-best eight home runs, while Hallum is batting .283 with seven homers.

Right-hander Alex Yarem leads the Camels on the mound with a 2-0 record and a 3.40 ERA. Harry Thomas is also 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA, while Ryan Kirk is 3-4 on the season.

NCCU is 16-21 this season, dropping eight of its last nine outings, including three games at North Carolina A&T over the weekend.

Carter Williams leads the Eagles, batting .362 with 21 RBI and 30 runs scored on the year. Corey Joyce has knocked in a team-high 35 runs, batting .350. Devin Sweet is 3-3 on the season with a 3.97 ERA in nine starts.

The Camels are 17-3 all-time against NCCU. In the teams' only meeting last season, Campbell took a 15-11 victory in Durham, N.C.

Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium this weekend, hosting UNC Asheville in a Big South series, April 21-23.
