Baseball welcomes Virginia Tech for midweek test

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell returns to the diamond Tuesday, May 2, hosting Virginia Tech at 6:30 p.m. at Jim Perry Stadium.

The Camels (19-23) will be back in action after a six day layoff for final exams. CU topped UNCW last Tuesday, 12-5 at Jim Perry Stadium, completing the series sweep over the Seahawks for the first time since 2001. Campbell fell at No. 3 North Carolina on Wednesday, ending a five game road nonconference unbeaten streak.

Matthew Barefoot leads the Camels with a .347 average and 38 RBI, posting 17 doubles and seven home runs. Jeff Hahs owns a .343 clip with eight homers and 37 RBI, while Cole Hallum hits .271 with 39 RBI and seven home runs.

On the mound, Wes Noble is 2-2 with a 3.46 ERA, while Alex Yarem is 2-0 with a 3.64 ERA for the Camels.

The Hokies (20-26) have dropped five in a row heading into the midweek meeting in Buies Creek, including three games at North Carolina State over the weekend.

Jack Owens bats .347 for the Hokies, while Tom Stoffel hits .340 with 43 RBI. Sam Fragale owns 14 home runs with 55 RBI, batting .296. Kit Sheetz is 3-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 21 appearances, making six starts.

The Camels took a 15-8 win over VT earlier this season in Blacksburg, Va., with Matthew Barefoot and Zach Minnick both homering twice.

Campbell jumps back into Big South play this weekend, May 5-7, at Liberty, beginning a nine game road swing. CU has one home series remaining, wrapping up the regular season May 18-20 against Longwood.
