BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell senior Drew Butler has been named the Big South's Player of the Week for games May 15-21.
Capturing the league's final player of the week nod of the 2017 season, Butler was 9-for-18 (.500) at the plate with eight RBI in four Campbell games. Butler knocked two doubles and a triple, scoring twice and stealing two bases to add to his Big South lead, finishing the regular season on an eight game hit streak. He also ranks second in the country in stolen bases.
Butler started the week with a 3-for-4 effort at East Carolina, driving in three runs. In Campbell's Big South series opener against Longwood, the Rockingham, N.C. native knocked in two more runs with a triple. In game two's 11-0 CU win, Butler went 2-for-5 with a RBI, and closed the regular season with another three hit day, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
In Butler's eight game hit streak he owns seven multi-hit games, including three this week.
For the season, Butler is hitting .318 with 51 runs scored and 33 RBI, adding 12 extra-base hits and 38 stolen bases.
This is Butler's first career Big South Player of the Week award.
The Big South weekly honor marks the sixth for Campbell this season. Matthew Barefoot also owns a league player of the week honor, as well as three freshman of the week nods. Alex Yarem was also named the Big South Pitcher of the Week.
Campbell will match up with regular season champion Winthrop to open the 2017 Big South Baseball Championship, presented by Hardee's, Tuesday, May 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Lexington County Stadium in Lexington, S.C.
