BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Stephanie Fox has been named head cheerleading coach at Campbell University, Director of Athletics Bob Roller announced Friday.

Fox joins the Fighting Camel staff after spending the last six years as cheerleading coach and health and physical education instructor at Harnett Central High School. She replaces Lisa Stewart, who stepped down from the position after guiding Campbell's cheerleaders for the last 10 years.

"Coaching at the college level has been a goal of mine for quite some time, and I am ecstatic about this opportunity," said Fox, a native of nearby Angier and 2002 graduate of East Carolina.  "Being a part of this community, I have pride for Campbell Athletics and this university as a whole. Lisa Stewart has done an outstanding job with the CU cheer program and I look forward to taking it to the next level. I urge everyone in the community to come out and support Campbell athletics. We are looking forward to a great season!"

Since graduating from ECU, where she was a varsity cheerleader, Fox has taught in the Harnett County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg County school systems.  In her first year as varsity head coach at Harnett Central, she was named 2012-13 Greater Neuse River Conference coach of the year after guiding her team to a league title.

Fox's team also won a national high school title at the 2014 Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM.

"We are excited to have Stephanie join our coaching staff," said Campbell Associate A.D. for External Affairs Ricky Ray.  "She impressed us all during the interview process and had an excellent plan for our student-athletes moving forward.  Her teams have always excelled and we look forward to having her lead our squads."

A 1998 graduate of Harnett Central High School, Fox and her husband, Brian, reside in Lillington with their four children – Colby, Cade, Cam and Cassie.
