Football Holds Second Official Scrimmage of the Preseason On Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell's football team capped off the team's third week of practice with a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Barker-Lane Stadium/Ed Gore Field

The Camels started the day going through punt and punt block before getting into some of the controlled situations scrimmage. In the scrimmage throughout the day quarterback Braden Smith completed 13 of 21 passes for 220 yards with both a passing and a running touchdown. Fellow quarterback Dakota Wolf completed eight of 11 passes for 85 yards. Kurt Odom led the running backs with 16 carries for 51 yards and three touchdowns. Carl Smith and Stephen Sladek also both had rushing touchdowns. Preston Dodson led the receiving core with six catches for 70 yards. Chad McMichael caught five passes for 47 yards. Paul Constantine had the two biggest pass receptions of the day with a 25-yard catch and a 34-yard catch. His 34-yard catch was a one-handed catch in the end zone. Four different defensive players registered multiple sacks on the day with Jeremiah Robinson, Taurean Lynch, Milton Brown and Ian Wilson all bringing the quarterback down twice. Adam Willets made all three field goals he attempted with a long of 39 yards. Sam Eberwein made his field goal attempt from 24-yards out.

"I was pleased with today's scrimmage," Coach Steele explained. "We planned a 24 period scrimmage but we were able to get everything we wanted to accomplish in 22 periods. I am excited about the progress we continue to make as a football team. They came out this morning and took the challenge of getting better. We worked on several situations that we did not work on last week. We put them in an under two minute situation. All of our kicking situations went smooth. We did a red zone scrimmage and I was pleased with the way both the orange offense and defense played. They both did an excellent job of executing the game plan and doing what they needed to do. We saw some kids step forward today. I was pleased with the way Jeremiah Robinson is playing. I think he has had a great camp. Even though he is a little nicked up he continues to play very hard. We saw good effort from Paul Constantine today. Braden Smith made some plays today. We continue to be able to use all four running backs in different situations which helps us a lot. Preston Dodson continues to amaze me and seeing how quickly he is making the transition from being a former basketball player to a football player. He has really picked it up and is becoming a vital part of our offense. Even though we tried to mix and match today our offensive line looked a little fatigued by the end of practice. We are a little nicked up on defense. We held some players out of the scrimmage today because we felt we needed to get them fully healthy. We continue to try to play a lot of different combinations when we are on defense. Overall my evaluation of this scrimmage is that this was a step forward for our football team."

The Camels will next get back on the field on Monday, Aug. 22, at 3:15 p.m.

Note: The Campbell football program would like to remind all fans that attend the practices that they are free to take pictures up until the 12th period. After the 12th period no pictures are allowed to be taken.
