BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell closed out a productive spring practice period with a Monday night contest at Barker-Lane Stadium.
The home team, featuring the first team offense, defeated the visiting 24-0 in front of more than 1,500 fans. The game was the first look at the 2013 Camels, led by new Campbell head coach Mike Minter.
The first team defense, playing for the home side, held the opposition scoreless.
Dakota Wolf led all rushers with 73 yards on four carries, including a 61 yard touchdown run in the Camels' first series. The rising senior also went 4-for-7 through the air for 19 yards.
Rising sophomore Dalton Dillon, a Second Team All-Pioneer Football League performer as a freshman in 2012, rushed for another score, adding 26 yards on three carries.
Michael Jorgenson added a third touchdown for the Camels, catching a second half pass from Austin Fleming for 14 yards for his only catch. Fleming completed 3-of-3 passes for 89 yards in the game. Flemming, a freshman, also rushed once for 36 yards.
11 CU receivers hauled in passes on the night, with Jonathan Brown catching two for 35 yards. Jabri Ridenhour and Jonathan Bridges caught 33 and 35 yard passes, respectively.
Christian Hayes and Marcus Maynard picked up interceptions for the Camels, with Hayes notching four tackles. John Alford led all tacklers with seven stops while Isaac Scott and Sam Kidd added six each.
Shane Sweeting and Tevin Thorpe also combined on a sack, while posting four tackles each. Hassan Williamson added a hurry and two tackles.
The game format featured two 20 minute halves with a running clock.
Campbell announced Mike Minter as its second head modern era football coach on November 27. Minter officially announced his first coaching staff on Dec. 20.
The 2013 season will begin on Aug. 31 at Charlotte. The team's six-game home schedule will start with UVa.-Wise on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
