BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After averaging 31.1 points in three games, Chris Clemons of Campbell University was named to the CollegeInsider.com post-season all-tournament team.
Clemons added 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 3.0 steals in three CIT outings for the Camels, who won first- and second-round games before falling to Furman in the quarterfinals. He shot 51 percent (32-63) from the floor, 39 percent (11-28) from 3-point range and made 19-of-23 (.826) from the line.
A sophomore from Raleigh, Clemons broke the Gore Arena scoring record in the CIT opener Mar. 14 vs. Houston Baptist, when he tallied 39 points, while adding six rebounds, two assists and three steals in a 98-79 victory over the Huskies.
He added 26 points (10-of-17 field goals), six boards, three assists and four steals in a 73-56 triumph Mar. 20 over UT Martin. Clemons closed out the season with a 29-point effort Mar. 25 in a 79-64 setback against Furman.
On the year, Clemons finished third nationally in scoring (25.1) while setting school records for points (904), field goals (301), 3-pointers (118) and scoring average.
Quadir Welton, who led Saint Peter's to a 62-61 victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the CIT title games, was named tournament MVP. Welton and Clemons were joined on the all-tournament squad by Furman's Kris Acox, Trevis Wyche of Saint Peters, Will Darley of UMBC and Texas A&M Corpus Christi teammates Ehad Amin and Rashawn Thomas.
