WILMINGTON, N.C. – Craig Hornberger and Jesper Svensson tied for fifth individually and Campbell moved up to fifth on the team leaderboard after Monday's final round of the Seahawk Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.
No.-11 Kent State (291-281-285—857) won the event by 33 strokes over runner-up Army (904). Richmond (906) was third, followed by No.-26 North Carolina (907) and Campbell (908).
Kent State teammates Josh Whalen (71-66-70—207) and Gisli Sveinbergsson (70-69-72—211) finished 1-2 on the individual leader board. Only four players in the 74-golfer field completed the 54-hole event in red numbers.
A sophomore from Balsta, Sweden, Svensson recorded the low round of the day (5-under 67) in the 74-golfer field. He finished the event at one-over 217 (76-74-67) for his second-straight top-5 finish. He made 11 birdies (tied for ninth in the field) and 33 pars (T6th), while finishing in a tie for second in par-4 scoring (+4). He played the par-3 holes even, tied for fifth in the event.
Hornberger produced his best finish of the season (75-70-72—217) and his third career top-10 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. Playing as an individual, Hornberger tied for fourth with 12 birdies and was ninth in par-3 (+1), par-4 (+6) and par-5 (-6) scoring.
As competing as an individual, senior Gaston Bertinotti logged his third career top-10 at Landfall by finishing this week in a ninth-place tie (72-75-73—220). He was second in the field in eagles (2) and in par-5 scoring (-8) and made eight birdies.
Campbell sophomore Ray Kraivixien (77-78-77—232) tied for 37th, while junior Thomas La Morte shot an even-par 72 Monday to move up to 43rd (83-78-72—233). Freshmen Brett McLamb (79-79-76—234) and Max Theodorakis (79-75-81—235) finished 49th and 53rd, respectively.
Including a 3rd-place showing at The Hayt and a win at the Border Olympics, Campbell has now posted three-straight top-five team finishes.
Campbell returns to action Apr. 3-4 in the RedHawk Invitational, at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., site of the 2015 U.S. Open.
