BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the second-straight week and third time this year, Jesper Svensson of Campbell University has been named Big South Conference men's golfer of the week.
A sophomore from Balsta, Sweden, Svensson recorded the low round of the final day (5-under 67) in the 74-golfer field at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. He finished the event tied for fifth at one-over 217 (76-74-67) for his second-straight top-5 finish.
Svensson made 11 birdies (tied for ninth in the field) and 33 pars (T6th), while finishing in a tie for second in par-4 scoring (+4). He played the par-3 holes even, tied for fifth on the par-72, 7036-yard Country Club of Landfall Ocean & Marsh Course. He lowered his season stroke average to 72.48.
No.-11 Kent State (291-281-285—857) won team honors by 33 strokes over runner-up Army (904). Richmond (906) was third, followed by No.-26 North Carolina (907) and Campbell (908).
Svensson's selection marks the eighth time a Camel has been chosen for Big South weekly honors. In addition to Svensson's previous picks on Sept. 29 and Mar. 16, Thomas La Morte was also named golfer of the week Oct. 28. Max Theodorakis was chosen freshman of the week Sept. 15 and Oct. 6, while Brett McLamb earned the award Mar. 16.
Campbell returns to action Apr. 3-4 in the RedHawk Invitational, at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., site of the 2015 U.S. Open.
