Men's Soccer opens exhibition schedule with 2-1 win at Mercer

MACON, GA. -- Campbell opened its 2011 men's soccer exhibition season Monday with a 2-1 victory over former Atlantic Sun Conference rival Mercer at Bear Field.

Sophomore Justin Franz hit a low hard shot that slipped past the diving attempt of Mercer goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.

Campbell doubled the margin early in the second half when sophomore Eduardo Rodriguez tapped in a rebound.

The Bears pulled within one when sophomore Ryan King scored on a shot that was deflected past  CUkeeper Ethan Hall.

Mercer finished with a 17-13 edge in shots.

Campbell concludes its pre-season competition Saturday with its 4:00 p.m. Alumni Match at the Eakes Athletic Complex.  CU will also host a Meet the Team night Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
