Cardenas and Golden earn all-state honors

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mitchell Cardenas and Travis Golden were named to the 2012-13 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) all-state University Division men's soccer team on Tuesday.  Twenty players representing seven different North Carolina universities were named to the 2012-13 NCCSIA University Division men's soccer all-state teams.

Atlantic-10 regular season champion Charlotte placed four individuals on the all-state first team, while High Point had three representatives.  Southern Conference champion Elon and Campbell had two players named to the first unit.

Cardenas and Golden helped lead Campbell to a 12-5-2 overall record (7-3-0 Big South) and a number-nine ranking in the final NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll.  The Camels finished the 2012 campaign 2-2-1 against nationally-ranked opponents and 2-1-0 vs. Atlantic Coast Conference schools.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
