BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Campbell opens Big South Conference play Tuesday with a 7 p.m. kick-off against VMI at the Eakes Complex.
Both Campbell (0-1) and VMI (0-1) suffered season-opening shutouts against non-conference opponents. The Camels dropped a 2-0 decision to North Carolina State, while the Keydets lost 3-0 at Army.
While Campbell was picked second in a pre-season poll of Big South coaches and VMI was chosen 11th, the Keydets have been a tough out historically for CU.
Campbell and VMI have split four previous meetings with Campbell winning both games since re-joining the Big South in 2011. Last year at Lexington, Va., Jhuvon Francis scored the game-winning goal as Campbell recovered from a 2-goal deficit to post a 3-2 victory.
In fact, Francis -- a junior from Kingston, Jamaica -- has scored in his first two outings against VMI. Two years ago in Buies Creek, Campbell also claimed a 3-2 triumph.
Following Tuesday's contest, Campbell is on the road for a pair of outings -- Sept. 11 at Davidson and Sept. 14 at Loyola (Md.).
