RECORDS: CAMPBELL (3-6-3, 3-0-1 Big South) stands 2-1-3 over its last 6 matches. CU is 1-3-2 at home this year… LONGWOOD (5-4-3, 4-0-1) is 4-0-1 over the last 5 outings. The Lancers are 2-2-1 on the road this season.
THE LONGWOOD SERIES: Campbell won the first-ever meeting between the schools in men's soccer last year at Farmville, Va., by a 1-0 margin. Mitchell Cardenas scored the game's lone goal in the 90th minute, while Ethan Hall posted a shutout in the nets. CU finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots.
OCTOBER A NIGHTMARE FOR CAMPBELL FOES: Campbell has compiled a record of 37-11-6 (.741) in its last 54 games during the month of October (including a 2-1-2 mark in 2013). In those 54 contests, the Camels have out-scored their foes by a 110-65 margin.
HALL NAMED BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE POTW FOR 2ND-STRAIGHT WEEK: For the 2nd-straight week, senior GK Ethan Hall was named the top defender in the Big South Conference. Hall registered his first shutout of the season on Saturday while making 7 saves at UNC Asheville. He lowered his goals-against average to 1.49 on the year – 0.95 vs. Big South opponents. Hall has moved into 7th place on Campbell's all-time goalkeeping records for matches played (47), started (45) and minutes played (4226). He is 9th with 195 career saves.
HOME, SWEET HOME: Since the start of the 2005 campaign, Campbell owns a 46-23-4 (.658) record at the Eakes Athletic Complex -- including 4 wins over nationally-ranked teams at the site. CU owns a 12-4-2 mark (1-3-2 this year) at Eakes dating to the start of the 2011 season.
CONFERENCE SUCCESS: Campbell owns a 51-17-6 (.730) record in conference regular season play since the start of the 2005 campaign. Over its final 6 years as a member of the Atlantic Sun, Campbell garnered a 36-10-5 (.755) record and won 3 regular-season titles, plus the 2007 tournament crown. Campbell has posted a 15-7-1 record in the Big South regular season since re-joining the league in 2011.
LAST TIME OUT: CAMPBELL -- Justin Franz scored the game's only goal in the 85th minute and Campbell won Saturday at UNC Asheville. Tunji Osifeso and Cesar Gonzalez set up Franz, whose header hit off the cross bar and went in for his fourth goal of the year and second game winner. CU finished with a 29-13 advantage in shots... LONGWOOD -- The Lancers scored twice in the first half hour on goals from Zach Crandall and Ben Ferrell and went on to a 3-1 win over VMI last Wednesday in Farmville. Zach Corcoran added an 83rd minute strike after the Keydets cut the lead in half.
CAMEL NOTES: Senior Ethan Hall has played all but 14 minutes and 17 seconds in the nets for the Camels since the start of the 2012 campaign... Hall and senior midfielder Justin Franz have played all 1146 minutes for CU this season... Franz leads CU in scoring with 11 points, (4G, 3A)... Over the last 6 matches, CU has allowed more than one goal only once, in a 2-2 draw with UNC Greensboro.
ALUMNI RETURN SATURDAY: Campbell kicks off Homecoming Saturday when it hosts its Alumni-v-Alumni match Saturday at 10 am. The varsity then meets Gardner-Webb at 1 pm.
