Men's Tennis Notches 4-2 Win vs. S.C. State

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell posted singles win by seniors Josep Baro (Barcelona, Spain) and David Clavera (Barcelona, Spain) and junior Fernando Guillen (San Louis Potosi, Mexico) to claim a 4-2 victory against South Carolina State on Monday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.

Doubles play started the day with Campbell (12-6) grabbing the early momentum as Clavera and Baro notched an 8-2 win at No. 2. Sophomore Steven Billington (Conway, Wales, U.K.) and freshman Rik Van Gerwen (Valkenswaard, Netherlands) combined to register an 8-6 win at No. 3 to earn the first point.

After S.C. State (10-4) knotted the match at one-all with an Anton Protsenko straight-set win at No. 2, Guillen put the Camels back on top with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1. The Bulldogs knotted the contest at two when Artemiy Nikitin took a 6-4, 6-4 win in the third slot.

The senior duo of Clavera and Baro, each from Barcelona, Spain, recorded straight-set victories to secure the victory for Campbell.

The Camels close out the regular season at home on Wednesday against East Carolina. The contest is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
