Men's tennis defeats Chowan in impressive fashion, 6-1

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell men's tennis team picked up its third win of the season in the Camels' home opener, defeating the Chowan in impressive fashion, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.

The Camels (3-1) began the match with doubles play as Fabien Ayet and Fernando Clemente defeated Chowan's Goncalves/Proulx, 6-1. Gerard Sola and Jonathan O'Neal earned their third-straight doubles victory to clinch the doubles point for Campbell, 6-3. Nicolas Rakitin and Lukas Schaefer battled Izycki/Yeh of Chowan to a 7-6(5) win on court one to round out doubles action.

Campbell continued its success in singles play with quick wins from Sola (6-2, 6-2) and Dustin Werner (6-2, 6-0). Lukas Schaefer clinched the win for CU with a win on court two over Chowan's Mateusz Izycki, 6-2, 6-3. Nicolas Rakitin faced another tough battle in the first singles flight, but came out on top over Kaliakperov, 6-4, 7-5. Fernando Clemente won his singles match to snap a two-game skid, defeating Proulx 6-2, 6-4. On court six, Chowan earned its only point as Louis Monterosso fell to Hajizada, 7-6, 6-1.

Up next, the Camels will face a quick turnaround as they host the Barton Bulldogs Friday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Nisbet Tennis Center. It will be the first match of the spring season for Barton. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell tennis, follow @GoCamelsTennis.
