Camels win fifth-straight match over Coastal Carolina, 6-1

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Fighting Camels' hot streak continued as they earned their fifth-straight win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

Campbell sophomore Gerard Sola earned wins in singles and doubles to remain unbeaten this spring, boasting a 6-0 singles record and a 5-0 doubles record with Jonathan O'Neal in 2017. CU's Lukas Schaefer and Nicolas Rakitin earned their fourth-straight doubles win, while Fernando Clemente (four matches), Rakitin (five matches), and Dustin Werner (six matches) kept their winning streaks alive in singles play.

The match began with doubles play as O'Neal and Sola picked up their fifth-consecutive win over Migliano/Schneider, 6-4. CU clinched the doubles point as Rakitin and Schaefer defeated Ortega/Talic, 6-4.

CU won five of its six singles matches, starting with Lorenz Schwab on court five who defeated CCU's Zak Talic, 6-0, 6-2. Werner picked up the next win for Campbell at No. 3, beating Luiz Faria, 6-0, 6-4. Sola clinched the victory for Campbell on court four, defeating Francesco Migliano 7-6(5), 6-3. Rakitin took the No. 2 singles flight 6-3, 6-2 over Sebastian Schneider. The longest match of the day occurred on court six, where Clemente was able to force a third set and win in a tiebreaker against Jose Ortega, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (5). CCU's only win of the day came at No. 1 singles as Vuk Velickovic defeated Schaefer, 6-2, 6-2.

The win moves Campbell to 6-1 on the season, the program's best start since 2011. The Camels are back in action Saturday as they take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a neutral site matchup, scheduled to begin at noon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
