BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels are back in action this week as they visit the Elon Phoenix for a mid-week regional tennis matchup. The match is scheduled for Thursday, March 2 at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.

Campbell (9-1) is off to its best start since 2011, currently riding an eight-match win streak that dates back to Jan. 20. Over that span, CU has outscored its opponents 46-7 including two clean sweeps over Morgan St. and Barton. Most recently, the Camels handed East Carolina just their second loss of the season, 5-1.

Sophomore Gerard Sola remains undefeated in both singles (9-0) and doubles (8-0) this spring and is currently on an 11-match singles win streak, dating back to Nov. 12, 2016 at the Wake Forest Invitational. Campbell freshman Fernando Clemente has been on a tear of his own, winning his last seven singles matches as he owns an 8-1 record for the season. Since moving to the No. 5 singles spot, junior Lorenz Schwab is riding a four-match win streak.

Elon (5-7) boasts an undefeated 5-0 record at home this spring, but has yet to win on the road with a 0-7 away record. The Phoenix have experience playing against some of the nation's top teams this season, including No. 25 Old Dominion, No. 43 Duke, No. 45 Yale, and No. 46 N.C. State. Elon returns home Thursday after dropping back-to-back road contests last week to the Ivy League's Brown, 5-2, and Yale, 7-0.

Elon's best singles player is Felipe Sarrasague, who has a team-best record of 7-5 at No. 1 singles this spring. He and doubles partner Mario Paccini will play at No. 1 doubles, where they are currently riding a three-match win streak. Salvador Mijares and Neal Port are also on a three-match win streak at No. 3 doubles.

Following the match, the Camels will return to Buies Creek to begin Big South play against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. The conference tennis action is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4 at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center.
