ELON, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels fell, 6-1, to the Elon Phoenix Thursday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The loss was just the second of the season for Campbell, snapping CU's eight-match win streak that dated back to Jan. 20.

Campbell's only win of the day came at No. 4 singles as sophomore Gerard Sola earned his 12th-straight win. He moved to 10-0 this spring with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Elon's Felipe Osses-King.

The match began with doubles as Sola and Jonathan O'Neal's undefeated spring came to an end. The duo suffered their first loss of the season on court three to Port/Mijares, 6-0. Elon's Tomic/Humphreys clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one over Dustin Werner and Lorenz Schwab. Lukas Schaefer and Nicolas Rakitin fell at No. 2, 6-4, to wrap up doubles play.

Elon (6-7) continued their success in singles action, picking up three wins in straight sets on courts one, six and five to make the score 4-0 and clinch the victory. Sola's win on court four lessened the margin to 4-1, but was the only point scored for Campbell on the afternoon. Werner was able to win his first set, but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker to Petar Tomic, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3. Schaefer's match ended similarly at a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 to Elon's Salvador Mijares.

Up next, the Camels return to the Creek as they open Big South play against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at the James R Nisbet Tennis Center. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell tennis, follow @GoCamelsTennis on Twitter.
