Camels extinguish Flames, 6-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Fighting Camels remained unbeaten in conference play as they were able to defeat the Liberty Flames, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Cook Tennis Center. It was Campbell's first win over Liberty since 2013, when CU downed the Flames in the Big South Quarterfinals.

Campbell (11-2, 2-0 BSC) was able to sweep doubles play for just the third time this season. Gerard Sola and Jonathan O'Neal picked up their team-high 10th win of the season on court three, 6-3. Nicolas Rakitin and Lukas Schaefer clinched the doubles point for CU with a 6-4 win over Salas/Gutierrez. Dustin Werner and Lorenz Schwab snapped a two-match losing skid as they defeated Poynter/Castano on court one, 6-5 (7-5).

The Camels went on to dominate singles play, winning five of six singles matches en route to the overall vicotry. Sola stayed red hot, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win on court four over Alex Poynter for his 14th-straight win in singles action. Rakitin got back on track with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court one over Gutierrez. The win was once again clinched by Campbell junior Schwab as he won on court five, 6-4, 7-5. After dropping the first set, Schaefer was able to fight back and win in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7. Freshman Fernando Clemente also forced a third tiebreaker set, winning his second-straight match with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. Liberty's only win of the day came on court three, where Werner fell 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).

Up next, the Camels will face a quick turnaround as they travel to Farmville, Va. to take on the Longwood Lancers on Friday, March 10.
