Camels sweep NCCU on Senior Day 4-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels ended the regular season with a quick Senior Day sweep over the North Carolina Central Eagles, 4-0, Thursday afternoon at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center. Campbell finished the regular season with 18 wins, a mark that ranks third in program history and is the most for Campbell since winning 19 in 2011.

The Camels went 12-0 at home this spring, marking the first time CU has gone undefeated at the Nisbet Tennis Center since 1992. Campbell's 12 home wins and four total losses this season are both all-time program records since the Camels' inaugural Division I season in 1984.

Campbell (18-4, 5-2 BSC) quickly captured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Lorenz Schwab and Dustin Werner picked up their sixth-straight win at No. 1 doubles as they defeated Konovalov/Cucalon, 6-3. On court two, Jonathan O'Neal and Gerard Sola won their 16th match of the season by a score of 6-4 over Kontopoulos/Callegari. Campbell senior Nicolas Rakitin and Fabien Ayet represented CU at No. 3 doubles, but the match went unfinished as the duo led, 5-4.

The Camels won three-straight singles matches in straight sets to clinch the overall victory. Schwab got things started with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Bromley on court five, good for his third-straight win. O'Neal played at No. 3 singles for the first time this season and quickly defeated Callegari, 6-2, 6-2. The match was clinched on court four, where freshman Fernando Clemente picked up his 16th singles win of the spring by a score of 6-3, 6-1 over Konovalov. The remaining singles flights were called off after Campbell clinched the victory.

Following the match, Rakitin was honored as he played in his final match at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center. Up next, the Camels will await final seedings for the Big South Championships, set for Wednesday through Friday, April 19-21 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Barring any last-minute changes, No. 3 seed Campbell will take on No. 6 seed Radford in the first round. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell tennis, follow @GoCamelsTennis on Twitter.
