TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has selected the Fighting Camels No. 9 in the end-of-year Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Carolina Regional Rankings, the organization announced last week. This marks the first time since 2011 that the Campbell men have garnered an ITA regional ranking.
The ITA Carolina Region is comprised of Division I institutions in the states of North and South Carolina. Campbell is the lone Big South school to receive regional distinction, while five ACC schools are represented on the top-10 list. A full breakdown of the regional team rankings as well as singles and doubles rankings can be viewed here.
Campbell ended the spring season with a 20-5 record overall, good for the second-highest win total in program history. The Camels narrowly fell to the Presbyterian Blue Hose in the Big South Final, 4-3, to earn their third conference runner-up finish in four years.
In singles, sophomores Gerard Sola and Dustin Werner were named First Team All-Conference, while Campbell freshman Fernando Clemente was selected to the Big South's Second Team. In doubles, Lorenz Schwab and Werner earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Jonathan O'Neal and Sola received a Second Team All-Conference nod. Following the end of the season, Germany natives Lukas Schaefer and Werner became the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees in program history.
