CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Amber Schisler is the 2017 Big South Preseason Player of the Year and Campbell is selected third in the preseason softball poll, announced by the conference Wednesday.

This is the third time Campbell has been selected third in the preseason coaches poll since rejoining the Big South. Third place is the second highest CU has been tabbed, with a second place nod in 2014.

Schisler's preseason honor is the first time Campbell has earned a preseason player of the year honor since it rejoined the Big South. Longwood's Elizabeth McCarthy has been named the preseason pitcher of the year.

Schisler appeared in 57 games for the Fighting Camels during the 2016 campaign. She scored 38 times and tallied 67 hits and a team-high 16 home runs. She also recorded 46 RBI and drew 20 walks. During the season she batted .390, with a team-high on-base percentage of .467 and a slugging percentage of .750.

Campbell enters the season returning a majority of the 2016 team that finished as Big South runner-up, falling to Longwood in the championship game. Campbell boasts six seniors to this year's team, including Katie Baker will spearhead the efforts in the circle for Campbell. Along with Baker, the senior class includes Schisler, Taesha DuBoise, Bailey Bjorson, Taylor Campbell, and Lizabeth McCurry.

The Camels look to build upon its runner-up finish from last season, as it kicks off the 2017 season with the Campbell Invitational, Feb. 10-12. The tournament welcomes North Carolina Central, Maryland-Eastern Shore, and St. Francis(Pa.) to Buies Creek for a nine-game weekend.
