CU takes 4-3 win over Towson Sunday afternoon

GREENVILLE, S.C.Caroline Smith scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to push Campbell past Towson, 4-3, Sunday afternoon during the final game of the Furman/USC Upstate Classic.

Rachel McCollum and Taesha DuBoise both had two hits and one run scored in the sixth victory for Campbell.

Towson's Daria Edwards, Kendyl Scott and Shelby Stracher also had two hits each on the day and combined for two runs.

Freshman Holly Brooks picked up the complete game win, her second victory on the season. She struck out two batters and allowed just three runs.

Julia Smith-Harrington went the distance for the Tigers in the loss. She gave up eight hits and four runs on the afternoon.

Towson got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on Stracher's RBI double down the left field line that scored Edwards from third.

Amber Schisler put Campbell in the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Schisler's second home run of the season also scored McCollum

Campbell's lead remained intact until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Towson took a 3-2 lead off the bat of Brook Miko. Her RBI single to right field scored Scott and Madison Wilson with one out in the inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Camels equalized the game at 3-3. With two outs, Megan Mozingo connected on a triple to centerfield that scored Taesha DuBoise from first base.

The Camels scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning after a bases loaded throwing error scored Caroline Smith from third base. It was the lone error on the day for the Tigers.

Brooks shut the door on the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh, as she forced them into a pair of fly outs and a bases loaded pop out to end the game. 

Campbell travels to Elon Tuesday for a midweek contest beginning at 4:30 p.m. Next weekend, Campbell travels to Conway, S.C. for a five-game weekend against Cleveland State, Morehead State, Penn State, and Coastal Carolina.
