ELON, N.C. – A four-run sixth inning gave Elon an 11-3 win over Campbell Tuesday evening inside Hunt Softball Park.
Erica Serafini went 2-for-4 on the day and hit the game-ending 3 RBI double in the sixth inning to lead Elon (7-2). Kara Shutt went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and Carey Million added 2 RBI for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix tallied 11 hits on the day, while the Camels only put up five. Elon tallied the lone error, a fielding mishap by Hannah Olson in the top of the second.
Kiandra Mitchum earned the win in 2.1 innings of work and three strikeouts. Katie Baker dropped to 1-3 after she allowed four earned runs in two innings of work.
Elon scored three runs in the bottom of the second to break the deadlock. Kristin Hoover hit a double to left centerfield that scored Carey Million from second base. Alaina Hall's groundout scored Hoover and a wild pitch scored the third run of the inning.
The Phoenix's lead increased to 4-0 in the bottom of the third, after a RBI single off the bat of Ashtyn Foddrell.
Campbell answered back in the top of the fourth inning, to cut the Elon lead to 4-3. Rachel McCollum started the inning with a double off the right centerfield wall. Three batters later, Megan Mozingo singled up the middle, which scored McCollum from third.
With two in scoring position, Katie Baker gave CU its second run of the inning with her RBI single to score Taesha DuBoise from third. The Camels' third run came on Abby Perryman's bases loaded single that plated Mozingo.
Elon responded with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. Kara Shutt hit a two RBI single and Million grounded out to score Hannah Olson from third.
The Phoenix closed the game with a four run eighth inning. Million began the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Olson from third. Two batters later Erica Serafini hit a bases loaded double to clear the bases and take the win.
Campbell returns to action Friday Feb. 24 at the Chanticleer Showdown. The Camels begin Friday at 10 a.m. against Cleveland State, followed by a 12:30 p.m. showdown with Morehead State.
