Campbell defeats Cleveland State, falls to Morehead State Friday

CONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore Abby Perryman tallied four hits Friday in Campbell's day one split at the Chanticleer Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina.

The Camels (7-6) made quick work of Cleveland State in the opener, defeating the Vikings 10-1 in five innings. In the second game, Campbell was limited to three hits in a 2-0 loss to Morehead State.

Game one: Campbell 10, Cleveland State 1 [F/5]

Perryman and Taesha DuBoise tallied four RBI apiece to lead Campbell to a 10-1 victory over Cleveland State in Friday's game one.

The Camels, who scored in every inning, jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Cleveland State scored its lone run of the day in the bottom of the fourth.

Perryman set a new single-game career-high with three hits and four RBI. She tallied a RBI double in the first, a two RBI single in the third, and a RBI single in the fourth.

Jessica Anderson's solo home run in the second inning was the second of her career and gave Campbell a 3-0 lead.

DuBoise finished 2-for-4 and put the Camels ahead in the first with a RBI double to right. She also had a RBI ground out in Campbell's three-run fourth and two RBI in the fifth that pushed the lead to nine.

Amber Schisler (3-0) pitched a complete game, allowed only four hits, and struck out three. Hanna Breeden (0-2) was tabbed with the loss, allowing eight runs and 12 hits in four innings of work.

Game two: Campbell 0, Morehead State 2

Chelsea McManaway struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits for Morehead State in Friday's 2-0 win over Campbell.

The Eagles' Allison Rager produced the only scoring play of the game, a two out, two-run home run in the third inning.

Campbell's Madison Herring finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double to lead off the sixth inning. Perryman's fourth hit of the day came in the sixth with her single to center.

Robyn Leighton and Hannah Murphy also tallied one hit apiece for Morehead State in the contest.

McManaway (3-2) recorded her third win of the year in the complete game shutout. She tallied at least two strikeouts in four separate innings in the game.

Schisler (3-1) took the loss for Campbell giving up two runs in three innings of relief work. Campbell starter Katie Baker yielded just two hits and struck out two in three innings.

Campbell will begin day two of the Chanticleer Invitational at 4:30 p.m. against Morehead State. Saturday's game two of the day is set for 7 p.m. against Penn State.
