Campbell falls to Coastal Carolina 3-2 Sunday

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Campbell 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Chanticleer Invitational.

Timi Tooley tied the game on a RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Two batters later Kassidy Smith drew a bases loaded walk that scored Amanda Daneker to clinch the win for the Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina (12-3) scored its first run of the contest in the previous inning on Kailey Mellen's solo home run.

Campbell finished the Chanticleer Invitational with a 3-2 mark and Coastal Carolina went a perfect 5-0 during the weekend.

With one swing of the bat, Campbell (9-7) got on the board in the top of the first inning on Amber Schisler's two-run home run. Casto, who went 2-for-4 on the day, also scored on the Schisler's third home run of the season.

The Camels had at least one hit in all but one inning, as they pounded out eight total hits by seven different batters in the game.

The home side was limited to five hits, led by Daneker's 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Coastal Carolina pitcher Devin Wallace (4-0) earned the win in 2.2 innings of work, allowing just two hits and zero runs. Taylor Rahach pitched 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and two runs in the start.

Holly Brooks (2-2) took the loss in 0.1 innings of work, allowing two runs and walking two. Katie Baker pitched six innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four.

Campbell returns to action March 1 inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium at 5 p.m. against UNC Greensboro.
