Campbell heads to Tennessee for four-game, three day trip

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a successful home weekend, Campbell softball hits the road for a three-day, four-game swing in the Volunteer state. CU will take on Tennessee, Austin Peay, and Lipscomb during the three-day span.

Campbell opens the week Monday evening at No. 15 Tennessee with first pitch at 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Campbell will take on Austin Peay in a doubleheader with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The final game of the trip is Wednesday afternoon at Lipscomb with a 3 p.m. start.

The Camels are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Camel Stampede in Buies Creek. CU defeated Rider twice, 9-1 and 5-2, and Norfolk State 7-6. The lone loss was to Appalachian State, 5-2, in Friday's opener.

The first game of the stretch is at No. 15 Tennessee. The Volunteers head into the contest with an 18-2 overall record, having won its last five games, including three shortened by the run-rule. The two losses came against No. 17 Utah on Feb. 24, 3-0; and a 4-2 loss against Texas.

Meghan Gregg leads the team with a .508 batting average and five home runs. She has 34 RBI on the year, doubling the next highest RBI contributor on the team. Aubrey Leach leads with 24 runs scored.

In the circle, Caylan Arnold has a 0.96 ERA, followed closely by Matty Moss with a 1.07 ER­­A. Moss has a perfect 10-0 record, while Arnold boasts a 7-2 mark. The duo has a combined 108 strikeouts on the season.

Austin Peay has won once in its last five games, a 14-3 victory over Mississippi Valley. The Governors opened the 2017 season with three straight wins.

Carly Mattson paces the way with a .436 batting average and a team-high three doubles. Danielle Liermann and Kacy Acree have 14 RBI apiece with Mattson closely behind at 11.

In the circle, Autumn Hanners has a 4.24 ERA and teammate Kelsey Gross boasts a 4.48 ERA. The pairing has a 7-6 record and have combined for 77 innings pitched.

Lipscomb boasts a 15-5 record, including a perfect 5-0 at home. After dropping three of its first five, the Lipscomb has won 13-of-15, including six straight.

Caitlin Plocheck leads the squad with a .403 average and is tied with two others with 14 RBI. She also has a team-best eight doubles and four home runs. Peyton Ward has 10 stolen bags on the year in 14 attempts.

In the circle, Mandy Jordan has a 1.25 ERA and a 9-2 overall record. She's pitched nine complete games and has struck out 81. McCarley Thomas holds a 2.61 ERA and a 5-3 record.
