Camels down Governors Wednesday morning

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. – Six unanswered runs over three innings helped Campbell to an 8-6 win over Austin Peay Wednesday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field.

Three different batters had multi-hit performances for the Camels (14-9). Amber Schisler and Melissa Tullar both had 2-for-3 outings, including two RBI each. Taesha DuBoise went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. 

Austin Peay's (7-8) offense was led by Danielle Liermann's 3-for-4, two RBI and one run performance. Christiana Gable and Kendall Vedder also contributed multi-hit efforts for the Governors.

The home side opened the scoring with a RBI ground out in the first inning, to which the Camels responded with six runs over three innings.

Schisler provided two runs in the stretch for CU with her fifth home run of the year in the third.

Tullar's RBI singles in the second and fourth added to the Campbell lead. A wild pitch and Bailey Bjorson's sac fly in the fourth capped the run.

Austin Peay added one in the bottom of the fourth inning on Kendall Vedder's two-run home run.

Both sides scored once in the fifth inning to keep the margin at three in favor of Campbell, 7-4.

Caroline Smith hit her second home run of the year with her solo shot in the seventh. The Governors closed the gap to two after Liermann's home run and Vedder's RBI single, but a pair of strikeouts from Megan Richards closed out the game.

Campbell used three pitchers in the contest, with Holly Brooks (3-3) picking up her third win of the year. She went three innings and struck out three. 

Amber Schisler started the contest with two innings pitched, fanning three of her own. Richards picked up her first save of the year with two innings of work and striking out two.

Kelsey Gross (5-3) took the loss for the Governors in three innings of play. She allowed five runs, all earned, and five hits. 

Campbell will take on Lipscomb at 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.
