Campbell heads to Greensboro for Spartan Classic

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Following a three game trip in Tennessee, Campbell softball is back in action March 10-11 in Greensboro, N.C. at the Spartan Classic hosted by UNCG.

The Camels will take on Delaware and UNCG on both days. Friday's action begins at 12:30 p.m. vs. Delaware followed by a 5:30 p.m. contest against UNCG. Saturday's contests begin at noon vs. Delaware and a 5 p.m. game against UNCG.

Last time out

Campbell softball took on three different opponents from Tennessee during the previous week. It opened up with a 10-1 loss at No. 15 Tennessee, followed by an 8-6 win at Austin Peay and a 5-2 loss at Lipscomb.

Campbell Fighting Camels (14-10)

Leading the offense for CU is senior Amber Schisler. She has a .386 average with a team-high five home runs and 19 RBI. Madison Herring leads the conference with a perfect 17-for-17 stolen base mark.

In the circle, Schisler leads the pitching staff with a 2.55 ERA and a 5-1 record. She's pitched two complete games and has 22 strikeouts on the year. Kate Baker boasts the second best ERA on the team at 3.73 and a team-high 34 strikeouts.

Campbell holds a 2-1 all-time record against Delaware and a 19-29 record against UNCG. Last time out vs. Delaware was a 4-1 win March 30, 1996.

Campbell hosted UNCG earlier this season, a 4-3 victory in favor of the Camels. Schisler pitched six strong innings in the win.

Delaware Blue Hens (2-12)

The Blue Hens hold a 2-12 mark on the season, with wins against Bethune-Cookman, 3-1, and LIU Brooklyn, 8-1. They have taken on four different ranked opponents this season, including common opponent No. 15 Tennessee, a 10-2 loss. 

Emily Neal's .308 batting average is a team-high, while Anna Steinmetz boasts three home runs. Leanna Gearhart paces the way on the base paths with seven stolen bases on nine attempts.

Jordan Cargile holds a 4.76 ERA with a 2-7 record on the year. She has yielded five home runs and 52 total runs on the year.

UNCG Spartans (12-7)

UNCG holds a 12-7 overall record, having won its last five contests including two extra-inning games. The Spartans five game winning streak came off the heels of the first meeting between Campbell and UNCG.

Gabrielle Cubbage continues to pace the way with a .246 batting average, followed closely by Jordan Gontram's .245 mark. The duo has 25 combined RBI and nine doubles.

Alicia Bazonski has a 3.33 ERA and a 7-5 overall record in 16 appearances. She's pitched six complete games, striking out 45 and allowing 85 hits.
