Campbell opens Big South play this weekend against Longwood

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell opens Big South play Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against defending Big South Champion, Longwood, inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Saturday is set for a doubleheader, with game three scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Campbell Fighting Camels

Most recently, Campbell dropped a 6-0 decision to in-state, ACC foe North Carolina. CU has lost five of its last seven contests dating back to its contest at No. 15 Tennessee.

Amber Schisler continues to lead the team with her .415 batting average and eight home runs. Madison Herring is still perfect on the base paths, stealing 20 in 20 attempts. Schisler is tied for first in the Big South Conference in batting average and Herring sits first with her 20 stolen bases.

As a team, Campbell sits first in the conference in double plays per game (0.52), fielding percentage (0.974), and stolen bases per game (1.97).

In the circle, Katie Baker leads the staff with six wins and 46 strikeouts on the year. She has a 3.93 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched. Schisler has a 3.82 ERA, best on the team, and 29 strikeouts.

Last season against Longwood, Campbell was swept in Farmville, but took a 5-2 win against the Lancers in the second round of Big South tournament action. CU fell in the Big South final to Longwood, 10-0, in five innings.

Longwood Lancers

Longwood comes to Buies Creek after a slow start to the season, having won just seven games in their 21 contests on the year. The Lancers are currently on a four-game losing streak, having scored just four runs in those games. Longwood's last victory was an 8-1 win against Eastern Michigan, March 10.

Kaylynn Batten leads the offense with her .278 batting average and 16 drawn walks. Krista Kelly has a team-high 11 RBI and two home runs. As a team, Longwood has just nine long balls on the year. Destiny Martinez leads the Lancers with eight stolen bases on 10 attempts.

In the circle, Sydney Gay paces the team with a 2.45 ERA in 16 appearances. She's pitched eight complete games and has a 7-7 mark this year. She has fanned 64 batters and walked 23. Elizabeth McCarthy has seen action in 10 games, pitching only 33.2 innings on the year, with an overall record of 0-5.
