Softball set for midweek contests at ECU and UNCW

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Following a 2-1 series win over Longwood, Campbell softball is back in action with back-to-back, non-conference matchups during the midweek.

The Camels will travel to East Carolina on March 21 for a single game set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, Campbell will travel to Wilmington for a 6 p.m. single game against UNCW.

Campbell Fighting Camels (17-15)

Campbell took 10-9 and 9-2 wins in games two and three over the weekend to take the series over Longwood. It was the first series win over Longwood since the Lancers joined the Big South in 2013.

Amber Schisler leads the team with her .409 batting average and nine home runs. Madison Herring is still perfect on the base paths, stealing 20 in 20 attempts. Schisler is second in the Big South Conference in batting average and Herring sits first with her 20 stolen bases.

In the circle, Katie Baker leads the staff with seven wins and 53 strikeouts on the year. She has a 4.22 ERA in 89.2 innings pitched. Schisler has a 3.55 ERA, best on the team, and 34 strikeouts.

East Carolina Pirates (15-13)

ECU enters the week after a 1-2 weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. The lone win was an 8-7 victory over Texas Tech. The two losses came against St. Francis (Pa.) 11-0 and 4-1.

Alex Mycek leads the team with a .368 batting average and 10 home runs on the year. She has a second-best 26 RBI on the year, one behind the leader, Meredith Burroughs, who has 27.

In the circle, the pitching staff has combined for a 4.94 team ERA, led by Lydia Ritchie's 3.23 ERA in 78.0 innings. She has an 8-5 overall record, having pitched seven complete games.

Last season, Campbell took a 3-2 win over the Pirates in Buies Creek.

UNCW Seahawks (17-16-1)

UNCW went 4-1 at the Fayetteville Showcase in Wilmington, with the lone loss coming against Georgetown, 5-1. The Seahawks also defeated Georgetown on the weekend, 4-1.

Lauren Moore has a team-high .388 batting average and is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Nella Chamblee posts a team-high 21 RBI and Hannah Adamczyk has a team-best four home runs.

In the circle, the Seahawks have a pair of hurlers with a sub-2.00 ERA. Peyton Jordan has a 1.29 ERA in 76 innings of work. Laurel Koontz has a 1.40 mark in just 10 innings, with nine strikeouts. Sarah Davis has the second most innings pitched, 53, and has a 3.17 ERA.

Last season against UNCW, Campbell split the matchups, falling in game one 4-3 in 13 innings, and winning game one, 4-0.
