CLINTON, S.C. – Campbell softball swept Presbyterian Saturday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex.
After trailing by two in the fifth, Campbell scored five in the sixth en route to an 8-4 win in game one.
Campbell stymied Presbyterian in game two, allowing just three hits as CU took a 6-1 victory to clinch the series.
Game one: Campbell 8, Presbyterian 4
A five-run sixth inning lifted Campbell to a come from behind win over Presbyterian, 8-4, in game one.
Campbell scored five in the sixth to take a three-run lead, 7-4. Jessica Anderson notched a two-RBI single to even the score line. After a PC pitching change, Abby Perryman and Madison Casto continued the scoring with back-to-back RBI singles to give the Camels a 6-4 advantage. Madison Herring capped the scoring with a fielder's choice RBI.
In the 7th, Caroline Smith tallied a RBI double to push the lead to four, 8-4. PC put two on in the bottom of the inning, but Campbell came out unscathed to take the win.
Kelsie Sanchez's RBI single in the bottom of the first opened the scoring for the home side. Katie Baker's RBI double in the top of the second knotted the score at 1-1.
Courtney White and Jonnie Petree connected on RBI doubles in the second to push the PC lead to 3-1. Amber Schisler's two-out single in the top of the third pulled CU with one, 3-2.
Katie Baker (8-6) pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and striking out two in the win. Amber Schisler earned the save, pitching two innings and allowing just one hit. Alex Cook (2-6) was tabbed with the loss in 5.2 innings of work, allowing eight hits and six earned runs.
Game two: Campbell 6, Presbyterian 1
Three runs in the top of the fifth inning broke the 1-1 deadlock and led Campbell to a 6-1 win over PC in game two on Saturday.
CU scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Following Madison Casto's infield single to load the bases, Bailey Bjorson doubled to left field to score two runs. Madison Herring plated one more as her sacrifice bunt scored Madison Casto.
Campbell opened the scoring in the first as Jessica Anderson drew a bases loaded walk. PC's Madison Longanecker drew a hit by pitch with the bases loaded to even the score at 1-1.
The Camels tacked on two more in the seventh as Christa Hall's double down the line drove in two. The home side put two in the bottom of the inning, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Megan Richards (2-1) picked up the win as she limited Presbyterian to three hits and one run. Katie Brown (5-9) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and walking five.
Game three is set for 11 a.m., a time change from the originally scheduled 1 p.m. time due to inclement weather.
Campbell welcomes Liberty for a three-game set, April 1-2 inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. Game three on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
