Camels and Flames split Saturday doubleheader

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and Liberty each picked up a win Saturday afternoon inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

The Camels walked off in game one, 5-4, on Abby Perryman's two-RBI single. Liberty answered with an 11-1 win in game two.

Game one: Campbell 5, Liberty 4

Perryman's two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted Campbell to a 5-4 win over Liberty in game one of Saturday's doubleheader

In the seventh, Taesha DuBoise drew a leadoff hit-by-pitch and Amber Schisler drew an intentional walk to put two runners on. With zero outs, Melissa Tullar advanced both runners on a sacrifice bunt. A flyout put two outs on the board, but Perryman's two-RBI single lifted CU to the win.

The Flames scratched the board in the first on Tori Zavodny's RBI double to score Amber Bishop. Campbell answered in the bottom half on Tullar's RBI groundout at first that scored DuBoise.

Liberty scored once in the second on Bishop's RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. Christa Hall's throw from left field to home in the same play prevented a second run from scoring and ended the inning. The Flames' lead grew to two, 3-1, on Alexia Taylor's RBI single in the third. 

CU knotted the game at three in the bottom of the fourth inning on RBI singles from Mozingo and Herring. Mozingo's single scored Smith and Madison Herring plated Mozingo three batters later. Taylor's sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, pushed LU back in the lead 4-3, before Perryman's walkoff single in the seventh. 

Katie Baker (9-6) went the distance in the win, striking out two and allowing just four runs. Julia DiMartino (7-6) pitched 6.2 innings in a complete game effort, allowing five runs and walking three.

Game two: Campbell 1, Liberty 11

Liberty scored 10 unanswered runs en route to an 11-1 victory over Campbell in game two Saturday afternoon.

The visitors scored four in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. After a leadoff walk, Amber Bishop and Sarah Robertson tallied back-to-back RBI singles to give the Flames a two-run lead. Jaclyn Amader pushed the lead to four, 5-1, with her two out, two-RBI double to right field.

Liberty tallied six more in the seventh to take a 10-run lead and reach the final scoreline. With the bases loaded Amader singled and reached second, which scored two runs for a 7-1 lead. Two more runs scored on Deidra See's two-RBI single to increase the lead to eight, 9-1. The Flames scored twice more on Amber Bishop's two-RBI single to score Jasmeen Click and See.

Similar to game one, the Flames scored one in the first inning on Zavodny's deep infield single, which scored Taylor. Mozingo's RBI in the bottom half of the second tied the game at 1-1, as Smith scored from third on the play.

Kenzie Freisen (6-1) took the complete game win, allowing just one run on eight hits. Megan Richards (2-2) tallied the loss in 4.2 innings of work, allowing five runs on six hits.
