BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Liberty slipped by Campbell, 4-3, Sunday afternoon inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium to take the weekend series, 2-1.
Liberty's (21-16, 7-2) leadoff batter reached in the top of the seventh. After a pair of quick outs, Amber Bishop came up and delivered a two-run home run to push the Flames ahead 4-3. CU (20-20, 5-3) was unable to get a baserunner in the bottom half of the inning, which ended the game.
Tori Zavodny led the Flames with a 3-for-3 day, scoring once. Bishop went 2-for-4, driving in two and scoring one.
Five different Camels recorded hits on the afternoon, led by Abby Perryman who tallied a two-RBI double in the first inning.
Campbell began the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. With two on, Melissa Tullar reached on an error that scored Madison Herring. Two batters later, Perryman connected on her two-RBI double to score Tullar and Caroline Smith and give CU a 3-0 lead.
Liberty answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second on Kaitlin McFarland's two-RBI single, which pulled the Flames within one, 3-2. The teams combined for four hits between the third and sixth inning, before the visitors claimed the lead in the seventh.
Kenzie Friesen (7-1) picked up the complete game win, allowing just three runs and striking out four. Katie Baker (9-7) took the loss in seven innings of work, allowing four runs and striking out one.
Campbell returns to action on the road at Winthrop, April 7-8. Friday's game one is set for 7 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
