Camels clinch series with doubleheader sweep over Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Campbell posted 17 runs in two games to sweep Friday's doubleheader over Radford inside the Radford Softball Stadium. The Camels have clinched their fourth Big South series of the season and have won five games in a row.

Campbell held Radford to four hits in its 3-2 win in game one and exploded for 14 runs in the nightcap to take game two, 14-6.

Game one: Campbell 3, Radford 2

Campbell scored once in three different innings en route to a 3-2 victory over Radford in game one of Friday's doubleheader.

Caroline Smith had the lone multi-hit performance in the game, including a RBI single in the seventh to give Campbell it's 3-0 lead.

Abby Perryman went 1-for-3 with a RBI single to left field in the first to open the scoring for the Camels. Melissa Tullar knocked in a run with her RBI single in the third, which gave CU a 2-0 advantage.

Radford closed the gap to one in the bottom of the seventh on Brittany Wratchford's two out, two-run home run, but a fly out to right sealed the Campbell victory.

Megan Mozingo, Bailey Bjorson and Madison Herring also connected on hits in the opening game of the weekend.

Summer Robinson, Hunter Mundy, and Marissa Gagliano tallied the other three hits for the Highlanders in the contest.

Katie Baker (12-7) picked up the complete game win, scattering four hits and striking out four. 

Kayla Huffman (5-6) pitched four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs in the loss.

Game two: Campbell 14, Radford 6

Campbell tallied its highest scoring output of the season in Friday's game two win, 14-6, over Radford. With the win, CU clinches its second consecutive Big South series and fourth of the campaign.

Taesha DuBoise led the Campbell offense, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI and one run scored. Caroline Smith also had a three-hit game, going 3-for-5 and scoring three. Schisler went 1-for-1, but reached in all five plate appearances as she was hit twice and drew a pair of walks.

Radford's offense was led by Summer Robinson's 3-for-3, one run and one RBI day, along with Brittany Wratchford's 2-for-4, one RBI performance.

CU opened the scoring in the first as a throwing error allowed Herring to score from third. Radford answered with three runs in the bottom of the first on a pair of RBI singles and a wild pitch, to take a 3-1 lead.

Schisler pulled the Camels back even in the third with a two-run home run, her lone hit of the contest. Radford answered  with a RBI single and a fielder's choice RBI to take a 5-3 lead after three innings.

The Camels scored 11 unanswered runs in the final four innings to take its largest lead of the game at nine.

DuBoise plated Mozingo in the fourth on a RBI single to center field. Mozingo drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5 that kickstarted the scoring onslaught. 

After Mozingo's walk in the fifth, DuBoise cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to left centerfield and pushed the lead to 8-5. Bailey Bjorson added one more on her sacrifice bunt, which put CU ahead 9-5.

With one swing of the bat in the top of the sixth, DuBoise increased the lead to seven, 12-5, with her second bases loaded triple in as many at-bats.

Campbell added two in the seventh on Chandler Patterson's RBI groundout and Smith scoring on a wild pitch.

Radford tallied one run in the bottom of the seventh as Hannah Medlam was walked with the bases loaded, which led to the final scoreline. 

Amber Schisler (7-6) pitched four innings in the win, allowing just three runs. Kayla Huffman (5-7) picked up the loss in two innings of work, allowing eight runs and walking three batters.
