BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell softball closes out the 2017 regular season against Charleston Southern May 5-6, 2017 inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The three-game series will begin Friday, May 5 at 5 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with game one airing on ESPN3. Prior to Saturday's game one, the team's seniors will be honored for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Campbell Fighting Camels (29-22, 13-5)
Campbell enters the final regular season weekend having secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big South Tournament. CU can clinch a share of the conference regular season championship with three wins this weekend. Last time out, Campbell knocked off in-state ACC foe, NC State, 7-4, Wednesday April 26.
Amber Schisler paces the offense into the finale for Campbell, leading the way in batting average (.414), RBI (46) and home runs (16). Schisler added her 16th home run of the season with a two-run shot over NC State in the previous game, increasing her Campbell career total to 32.
Madison Herring, the 2017 Amanda Littlejohn Award winner, paces the way on the base paths with 28 stolen bases. Caroline Smith knocked in her second career grand slam last Tuesday vs. NCSU to move into second on the team with 28 RBI.
Katie Baker leads the pitching staff with a 3.04 ERA and a 15-7 record. She picked up a pair of wins in the most recent Big South series against Gardner-Webb. She pitched 14 innings and allowed just three runs in the process. Amber Schisler has a 4.58 ERA with eight wins and 48 strikeouts, second only to Baker.
Charleston Southern Buccaneers (22-34, 7-11)
Charleston Southern enters the weekend on a five-game losing streak, after getting swept by Longwood. CSU's last win came against Winthrop at home, with the Bucs taking 2-of-3 from the Eagles.
Jade Gandara leads the offense for the Bucs with her .368 batting average and team-high 15 home runs. She's driven in 52 runs and has scored 32 runs of her own. Caitlyn Emberson sits second in home runs with 11 along with her 32 RBI. Amanda Matsumoto is 31-for-35 in stolen bases on the season.
In the circle, Cheyenne Gandara has a team-best 2.94 ERA in 26 appearances. She has fanned 95 batters in 123.2 innings. She has pitched eight complete games with one shutout to compliment her 8-11 record.
Last season against CSU, Campbell took 2-of-3 including a 6-5 win in 10 innings in North Charleston.
Campbell will head to Farmville, Va. for the 2017 Big South Championships, set for May 10-13. The Camels will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament, with their first game set for May 11 at 2:30 p.m.
