Indoor track set for UNC Open Saturday afternoon

BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Campbell indoor track & field opens the New Year this weekend as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Art and Linda Maillet UNC Open. The one-day meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 14, beginning with field events at 9:00 a.m.

This is the second meet of the indoor season for CU. The Camels began the 2016-17 campaign in Winston Salem, N.C. at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on Dec. 4. Junior Racheal Brown took first overall in the women's 400m with a time of 57.83, while senior Shenelle McKay and freshman Marta Segarra-Dionis tied for first in the women's high jump with marks of 1.70m. On the men's side, Daequon Carr had Campbell's fastest 200m on the day, recording a 23.44 in his first college meet.

The Camels will see quite a few athletes making their season debuts this weekend, including Lilla Juhasz who was named the 2016 Big South Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. A slew of distance runners will also be competing for Campbell, with Casper Duell, Meshack Kipruto, Kelvin Kirui, Jade Baldwin, Lize Botha, Ali Bowen, Aimee Fish, Madeline Fitch, Megan Lanzon, Michaela Louw, Joan Maritim, Heidi Tuszkiewicz and Kaelyn Yoder making their first appearances of the indoor season. Following the meet, the Camels will continue training in preparation for the Liberty Kickoff, hosted by conference rival Liberty.
