WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Campbell junior Kelvin Kirui broke the Campbell record in the men's 800m with a mark of 1:52.99 to highlight 17 PR's set by the Camels Saturday at the UCS Invitational. His time beat the previous record held by Morgan Timiney by .25 seconds, and it was the eighth program record that Campbell has broken this indoor season.

The Camels started the day with the men's long jump where Noah Tyson tied his indoor PR with a mark of 6.63m. He and his twin brother Nate Tyson also broke their previous best marks in the men's triple jump later in the afternoon with performances of 14.23m and 13.18, respectively. Jada Johnson took first place in the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.27m to round out CU's top performances in field events on the day.

In the women's 800m, CU saw Heidi Tuszkiewicz (2:21.90), Kaelyn Yoder (2:24.95) and Brianna Meyrick (2:24.96) all set new PR's to begin track events for Campbell. Kirui's record-breaking performance followed in the men's 800m, where freshman Casper Duell also clocked a 2:02.66 in his first race since December.

The next event was the women's 60m, where Jullia Morris set an indoor PR with a time of 8.06. Freshman Daequon Carr clocked a 7.001 on the men's side, just .01 seconds away from his PR. Campbell saw another personal best in the 400m as sophomore Roshae Jackson came in at 1:00.86. For the Campbell men, Chigozie Atavwigho ran Campbell's fastest 400m this season with a time of 50.71. Collin Cooper was right behind Atavwigho, placing third in 50.81.

The men's and women's 3K had three Campbell freshmen set new PR's as Madeline Fitch (10:48.87), Jade Baldwin (11:18.61) and Billy Knabe (9:24.56) all ran the best races of their young collegiate careers. Up next was the 200m, which saw Johnson (26.61) and Jacob Carter put up personal bests. The final individual events of the day were the women's and men's mile, where Amina Alvarez Barkane ran her best time since 2014 with a mark of 5:18.89. Tuszkiewicz (5:26.28) and freshman Travis Gallimore (4:34.23) put up the final PR's of the day for Campbell.

All these personal bests put the Camels in prime condition heading into the 2017 Big South Indoor Championships, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, N.C. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell track & field, follow @GoCamelsRun on Twitter.
