CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Fighting Camels have earned two Big South Track & Field weekly honors, the conference office announced Wednesday morning. Campbell freshman Amon Kemboi was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while junior Joan Maritim was selected as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Kemboi competed in the men's 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays this past weekend, a race that featured 51 of the top 54 marks in the NCAA this season. He posted a time of 28:57.45, just two seconds off the Campbell record, to place sixth at the meet. That mark currently ranks Kemboi fifth on the TFRRS NCAA Div. I Combined List, which puts him in a great position to qualify for the NCAA East Regional.

Maritim represented CU in the 10,000m on the women's side at the Raleigh Relays, which boasted 38 of the top 40 times in the country this year. Maritim broke her own school record by 20 seconds with a mark of 34:35.83 to place 12th at the meet, and her time currently ranks eighth on the TFRRS NCAA Div. I Combined List.

These are the first Big South outdoor track awards for the Camels this season. The Camels were most recently selected to finish second on both the men's and women's side in the Big South preseason coaches poll.

Up next, the Camels are set to compete in  the High Point VertKlasse Invitational. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1. For the most up-to-date information on Campbell track & field, follow @GoCamelsRun on Twitter.
